My publications includes more activities than traditional publications. We have added Professional/Scholarly presentations and Arts activities to this session based on how these activities are reported at UGA. Please refer to the Activity types defined page which includes a brief description of the type.
Elements has a publication search tool called the “Synchronizer” that searches online public and subscription databases and downloads bibliographic details of your publications using "My search settings" defaults. Your search settings may need to be changed an optimized beyond the system defaults. Refer to the Calibrating the synchronizer in ("My Search Settings") for instructions on adjusting these settings. It is recommended that you make one search setting change, then let the Synchronizer run before you add a new parameter. Adding keywords and journals will restrict your search. In addition, online database ID's have a specific number, so make sure you know what it is before you add an ID. Otherwise, your search will fail. These instructions are in the link above.
When the Synchronizer finds publications that appear to be authored by a user, it automatically downloads them to a "Pending" folder for the user to claim or reject, and then it sends out an email notification to the user. This search tool may not find all of your publications. However, Elements users can search for publications within UGA Elements (See Using the "assisted search" feature to claim an existing publication); import publications from third party sources; and How to import publications from citation manager applications. The advantage of the import feature is that you can import publications in bulk and they will automatically populate the folders based on their assigned type (Journal articles, Books). The main issue with the import feature is that you may have to re-assign a publication type to another type if Google Scholar or other online databases mis-types the publication. If you cannot find a publications after you have tried the above, you may have to manually enter some publications.
Many UGA faculty members have Google Scholar accounts. The Synchronizer will not automatically search Google Scholar, but you can import your citations directly from Google Scholar into Elements using the import feature. See Importing from Google Scholar instructions below.
